Established in 2016, ARC Vets is an independent NZ family-owned referral practice with two state-of-the-art small animal hospitals in Auckland, ARC Central Ltd in Freemans Bay, and ARC North Ltd in Albany. We’re a 24/7 operation with an incredible team of specialists in surgery, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, oncology, dermatology, and critical care. ARC North also offers hydrotherapy services. 

We have all the equipment you would expect in a modern referral veterinary hospital including full in-house laboratory suite with Radiometer, multiparameter patient monitors, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, underwater treadmill, mechanical ventilation, on-site CT and MRI, along with dedicated cat and dog receptions, consulting rooms and wards.

Job Description

Due to the growth of our oncology service, we are seeking an additional Veterinary Oncologist (board-certified or residency-trained) to join our central Auckland hospital. You’ll be stepping into a well-supported department with an existing caseload, joining a collaborative team of specialists committed to delivering the highest standard of care across a diverse range of cases.

The Opportunity

  • Comprehensive Oncology Care: Deliver expert diagnosis and management of cancer patients, tailoring treatment plans to each individual using the latest advances in veterinary oncology.
  • Chemotherapy: Design and administer chemotherapy protocols that maximise treatment effectiveness while minimising side effects. Provide careful monitoring and compassionate support for pets and their families throughout the process.
  • Surgical Oncology: Collaborate closely with our surgical specialists to plan and perform tumour removals that achieve optimal outcomes while preserving function, comfort, and quality of life.
  • Electrochemotherapy (ECT): Utilise this innovative treatment that combines electrical pulses with chemotherapy to enhance drug uptake and effectiveness, particularly for skin and soft tissue cancers.
  • Radiation Therapy Coordination: Work with our partner human medical facility to provide pets with access to advanced radiation therapy. Support clients through every stage of this treatment, ensuring the highest standard of care and communication.
  • Palliative Care & Pain Management: Provide expert palliative care for pets with terminal or advanced disease, focusing on comfort, dignity, and quality of life. Offer guidance and empathy to families navigating end-of-life decisions.
  • Collaborative, Multidisciplinary Care: Partner with colleagues across surgery, internal medicine, imaging, and emergency services to deliver seamless, integrated cancer care for every patient.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Contribute to the growth and continued excellence of the oncology service. Share your knowledge and inspire others through mentorship, teaching, and collaboration with interns, residents, and veterinary nurses.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Board certification or residency training in veterinary oncology (e.g., ACVIM, ECVIM, FANZCVS).
  • Strong clinical expertise in oncology.
  • Excellent communication skills and a passion for patient care and client education.
  • A commitment to collaboration and teamwork, as well as training of interns.
  • Eligibility to register as a veterinarian in New Zealand.
