Veterinary Surgery Team Leader - Freemans Bay Auckland

Hours of work 

  • 75-80 hours per fortnight
  • 8 to 10 hour shifts

 

Job Description

Job tasks and responsibilities

  • Nursing of referral and emergency surgical patients, including high-dependency cases
  • Leading the surgery nursing team and ensuring the smooth running of the surgery department
  • Attending regular Team Leader meetings and actively working towards the development of the clinic and the surgery nursing team
  • Assisting with training and development of the surgery team and other teams within the hospital
  • IV and urinary catheter placement; venipuncture and running of laboratory tests
  • Monitoring anaesthesia
  • Assisting with emergency surgical procedures
  • Radiography

Our successful candidates must have a positive attitude, be approachable and open with excellent communication skills as well as a passion for surgical nursing. A veterinary nursing qualification and at least 3 years’ experience as a veterinary nurse is required, previous experience leading a team is also desirable.

ARC Central Ltd (ARC Vets) is a private independently owned and operated animal referral practice established in 2016.  We have two modern and amazing Auckland sites – Freemans Bay, Auckland city and Albany, North Shore.

We operate a 24 hour / 7-day week operation for emergency medicine.  We also have specialists in small animal surgery, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, oncology and critical care.  Hydrotherapy and dermatology are available at ARC North.

We have all the equipment you would expect in a modern referral veterinary hospital including full in-house laboratory suite with Radiometer, multiparameter patient monitors, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, underwater treadmill, mechanical ventilation, on-site CT and MRI, along with dedicated cat and dog receptions, consulting rooms and wards.

Desired Skills and Experience

Skills and experience

The successful candidate will:

  • Have at least 3 years’ experience working as a veterinary nurse
  • Hold a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology degree (or overseas equivalent)
  • Have some previous experience of leading/managing a team
  • Deliver an exceptionally high standard of patient care
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Be extremely reliable & willing to work shifts
  • Be a team player
