Established in 2016, ARC Vets is an independent NZ family-owned referral practice with two state-of-the-art small animal hospitals in Auckland, ARC Central Ltd in Freemans Bay, and ARC North Ltd in Albany. We’re a 24/7 operation with an incredible team of specialists in surgery, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, oncology, dermatology, and critical care. ARC North also offers hydrotherapy services. 

We have all the equipment you would expect in a modern referral veterinary hospital including full in-house laboratory suite with Radiometer, multiparameter patient monitors, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, underwater treadmill, mechanical ventilation, on-site CT and MRI, along with dedicated cat and dog receptions, consulting rooms and wards.

Job Description

Come and work at our Albany & Freemans Bay clinics, on the beautiful city of Auckland, New Zealand. Initially you will spend more time in Freemans Bay with the intention of working more shifts in Albany next year.

  • You will have the opportunity to provide outstanding patient care and use your nursing skills – we expect our nurses to perform triage, place IV catheters, take blood samples, take radiographs, monitor anaesthetics, scrub-in etc.

Competitive hourly rate $30 - $35 gross per hour

Main responsibilities

No two days will ever be the same!  Here is a taste of what you will be involved in…

  1. Patient handling and monitoring.
  2. Urgent triage following ARC protocols (including resuscitation, stabilisation and assisting with assessment as necessary);
  3. Assessment of the urgency and severity of presenting problems through history taking, and examination before referral to the appropriate vetAssessment can be via telephone or 1:1 consultation with patient.
  4. Follow-up of patient test results and communication with clients where appropriate.
  5. Administration of medications, including dose calculations, and charted instructions in a timely and accurate manner.
  6. Collection and submission of diagnostic samples.
  7. Preparation of patients for procedures.
  8. Provision of patients basic needs (food, water, exercise), comfort and hygiene in accordance with practice standards.
  9. Performing diagnostic imaging studies.
  10. Monitoring of anaesthetics.
  11. Assisting other clinical team members as required.
  12. Undertaking patient discharge, ensuring clients understand the diagnosis, outcome and after-care follow-up arrangements.
  13. Maintaining high standards of infection control.
  14. Assisting in surgery.
  15. Preparation of notes, invoicing and liaising with clients and referring vets.

Desired Skills and Experience

What you will have:

  • Diploma in Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology degree (or overseas equivalent) and/or at least 2 years of veterinary nursing experience
  • Experience with anaesthesia
  • Ability to perform triage, place IV catheters, take blood samples, take radiographs, etc
