Established in 2016, ARC Vets is an independent NZ family-owned referral practice with two state-of-the-art small animal hospitals in Auckland, ARC Central Ltd in Freemans Bay, and ARC North Ltd in Albany. We’re a 24/7 operation with an incredible team of specialists in surgery, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, oncology, dermatology, and critical care. ARC North also offers hydrotherapy services.
We have all the equipment you would expect in a modern referral veterinary hospital including full in-house laboratory suite with Radiometer, multiparameter patient monitors, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, underwater treadmill, mechanical ventilation, on-site CT and MRI, along with dedicated cat and dog receptions, consulting rooms and wards.

Job Description
We are seeking a positive, flexible nurse who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate enjoys multitasking and brings a proactive, can-do attitude to their work.
You will have experience in general anaesthesia and patient recovery, along with a strong understanding of theatre and instrument cleaning protocols. A solid foundation of nursing skills, excellent communication with clients, and a strong work ethic are essential.
This dynamic role offers the opportunity to work across two of our busy teams — Theatre and Emergency — making it ideal for someone who enjoys variety and contributing to high-performing clinical teams.

Competitive hourly rate $29 - $32 gross per hour plus 20% night and weekend allowance.

Main responsibilities
No two days will ever be the same! Here is a taste of what you will be involved in…
Patient handling and monitoring.
Urgent triage following ARC protocols (including resuscitation, stabilisation and assisting with assessment as necessary).
Assessment of the urgency and severity of presenting problems through history taking, and examination before referral to the appropriate vet. Assessment can be via telephone or 1:1 consultation with patient.
Administration of medications, including dose calculations, and charted instructions in a timely and accurate manner.
Collection and submission of diagnostic samples.
Performing diagnostic imaging studies.
Follow-up of patient test results and communication with clients where appropriate.
Preparation of patients for procedures and surgery.
Monitoring of anaesthetics.
Assisting in surgery.
Provision of patient’s basic needs (food, water, exercise), comfort and hygiene in accordance with practice standards.
Maintaining high standards of infection control.
Undertaking patient discharge, ensuring clients understand the diagnosis, outcome and after-care follow-up arrangements.
Preparation of notes, invoicing and liaising with clients and referring vets.
Assisting other clinical team members as required.
Cleaning and maintaining the theatre's and all the equipment within to an extremely high level
Cleaning and sterilizing equipment and instruments to an extremely high level
Preparing and resetting of the theatre for the next day's procedures
Preparing and resetting of equipment and surgery packs for the next day's procedures
Hours of work
Permanent part time Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 3:00pm – 8:00pm or 4:00pm to 9:00pm.
Opportunities to pick up additional shifts if available.

Desired Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will:
Be a team player
Have at least 1 years experience post-qualification working as a full time veterinary nurse
Hold a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology degree (overseas equivalent preferable but negotiable)
Deliver an exceptionally high standard of patient care
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
