Established in 2016, ARC Vets is an independent NZ family-owned referral practice with two state-of-the-art small animal hospitals in Auckland, ARC Central Ltd in Freemans Bay, and ARC North Ltd in Albany. We’re a 24/7 operation with an incredible team of specialists in surgery, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, oncology, dermatology, and critical care. ARC North also offers hydrotherapy services.

Job Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Veterinary Nurse to join our Internal Medicine team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional nursing care to patients with complex and challenging medical conditions.

Hours of work
80 hours per fortnight
4 x 10 hour shifts per week

Responsibilities
Provide general nursing duties including (but not limited to) patient handling and monitoring, urgent triage following ARC protocols (including resuscitation, stabilisation and assisting with assessment as necessary), follow-up of patient test results and communication with clients where appropriate, administration of medications, including dose calculations, and charted instructions, collection and submission of diagnostic samples, preparation of patients for procedures, provision of patient’s basic needs (food, water, exercise), comfort and hygiene in accordance with practice standards, assisting other clinical team members as required, undertaking patient discharge, ensuring clients understand the diagnosis, outcome and after-care follow-up arrangements, maintaining high standards of infection control.
Additional Internal Medicine duties:
Taking detailed patient histories during consultations
Assisting with procedures such as:
Endoscopy, swallow studies, balloon dilations,
Ultrasounds, CT scans and advanced diagnostics
Blood transfusions and occasional chemotherapy.
Monitoring patients under sedation and general anaesthesia
Jugular blood sampling and IV catheter placement
Administering medications and running in-house lab samples.
Preparing and dispensing medications as advised by the vet.
Provide advanced nursing care for patients with complex and long-term conditions
Desired Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will:
Have at least 2 years’ experience working as a veterinary nurse
Hold a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology degree (or overseas equivalent)
Deliver an exceptionally high standard of patient care
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Be extremely reliable & willing to work shifts, including weekends & public holidays
