The Opportunity 

We are seeking a Veterinary Cardiologist (board-certified or residency-trained) to take over an established full-time role within our central Auckland hospital. This opportunity arises as our current cardiologist moves on to pursue new adventures after five years of service. You’ll be stepping into a well-supported position with an existing caseload, joining a collaborative team of specialists committed to delivering the highest standard of care across a diverse range of cases.

Job Description

 Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Diagnosis & Management: Perform comprehensive cardiovascular assessments, develop individualised treatment plans, and manage a wide range of cardiac conditions.
  • Advanced Diagnostics: Utilise echocardiography, electrocardiography (ECG), thoracic radiography, Holter monitoring, and other diagnostic tools to evaluate and diagnose cardiac disease.
  • Interventional Procedures: Perform or oversee interventional cardiology procedures such as pericardiocentesis, pacemaker implantation, and balloon valvuloplasty.
  • Client Communication & Education: Provide pet owners and referring veterinarians with clear, compassionate communication regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and long-term cardiac care plans.
  • Collaborative Care: Work alongside our multidisciplinary specialist team to manage complex cases requiring integrated, multi-service support.
  • Leadership & Development: Contribute to the growth and development of the cardiology service and support the training and development of interns, residents, and veterinary nurses within the practice.

We’re a 24/7 operation with an incredible team of specialists in surgery, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, oncology, dermatology, and critical care. Desired Skills and Experience

Qualifications & Skills 

  • • Board certification or residency training in veterinary cardiology (e.g., ACVIM, ECVIM, FANZCVS). 
  • • Strong clinical expertise in cardiology, including interventional procedures.
  • • Excellent communication skills and a passion for patient care and client education. 
  • • A commitment to collaboration and teamwork, as well as training of interns.
  • • Eligibility to register as a veterinarian in New Zealand.
