Established in 2016, ARC Vets is an independent NZ family-owned referral practice with two state-of-the-art small animal hospitals in Auckland, ARC Central Ltd in Freemans Bay, and ARC North Ltd in Albany. We’re a 24/7 operation with an incredible team of specialists in surgery, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, oncology, dermatology, and critical care. ARC North also offers hydrotherapy services. 

We have all the equipment you would expect in a modern referral veterinary hospital including full in-house laboratory suite with Radiometer, multiparameter patient monitors, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, underwater treadmill, mechanical ventilation, on-site CT and MRI, along with dedicated cat and dog receptions, consulting rooms and wards.

Job Description

Join us as a Team Leader and lead a dynamic team of dedicated and passionate nurses in caring for a diverse range of emergency and specialty patients with a wide range of disease processes.

We are looking for an authentic leader who will be an approachable, supportive and a positive role model for the team. They will possess excellent communication skills as well as a passion for nursing.

They will have the ability to multitask up a storm, problem solve a variety of situations all while enjoying an interactive and inclusive environment.

A veterinary nursing qualification and/or at least 3 years’ experience as a head veterinary nurse is required, ER experience is a bonus! 

As a Team Leader you will:

Lead and Develop: Mentor team members, provide guidance, and foster a collaborative environment.

Drive Results: You will have the opportunity to provide and foster outstanding patient care and use your nursing skills – we expect our nurses to place IV catheters, take blood samples, take radiographs, monitor anaesthetics, scrub into surgical procedures etc.

Competitive hourly rate: $34 - $38 gross per hour plus 20% night and weekend allowance offered.

Job tasks and responsibilities 

  • Leading the ER nursing team and ensuring the smooth running of the ER department 
  • Rostering and managing leave applications for your team. 
  • Attending regular team leader meetings and actively working towards the development of the clinic and the ER nursing team 
  • Assisting with training and development of the team and other teams within the hospital 
  • Senior nursing of referral and emergency patients, including high-dependency cases 

Hours of work

  • 75-80 hours per fortnight
  • 10 to 12 hour shifts – negotiable
  • To be successful in this role, you will need to be flexible to cross over day and night shifts, when required.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Proven leadership experience in a team environment.
  • Roster organisation and leave management will be beneficial.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to motivate and engage team members.
  • Have at least 3 years' experience working as a head veterinary nurse or hold a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology degree (overseas equivalent preferable but negotiable) or relevant experience
